Metadata, artwork & inspection

Inspect source identity, match providers and protect manual edits.

Find and inspect a title#

  1. Open Metadata studio and search using Find media to edit.
  2. Use the unmatched/provider-identifier filter when diagnosing unknown titles.
  3. Open the item's details/inspection control. Compare Indexed title, File / folder, Server path, Parent folder context, Media identity and Identifiers.
  4. Inspect opens read-only folder/file context, indexed status and conflicts. Open folders, preview a browser-compatible original file, match it or edit its metadata using the relevant item controls.

An original-file preview has fewer compatibility options than the Media Center. If it cannot decode a file, try the actual player before assuming the file is broken. Inspection does not move or rewrite source files.

Find the correct provider match#

Choose Find the right…, enter Title and optional Year, then Search providers. The form sends those values to enabled metadata services. Review the returned provider/year/identifiers before selecting a match. An empty result is not a fabricated match: correct the title, year or provider ID and try again.

Edit metadata#

Field Values and side effects
Title Required display title.
Release year Numeric year, form bounds 1800–2200. Leave blank when unknown.
TMDB identifier Numeric provider identifier when known.
IMDb identifier Provider identifier such as a verified tt… value.
Episode / Season number Non-negative numbering for the appropriate media type.
Episode display order Series-only Aired, DVD or Absolute; provider availability varies.
Synopsis Editable descriptive text.

Save changes locks edited fields against automatic provider refresh. Re-open the item to check the result. Correct an edit through the same form; there is no separately implemented universal unlock/reset-artwork workflow in this panel.

Provider preferences and artwork#

Under Library providers, open a library and set Enable online metadata providers, Metadata language (English, Hindi, French, German, Spanish, Japanese) and a two-letter Country code. Save, then deliberately refresh affected media. The per-library add/edit dialog also exposes provider priority when available.

Artwork arrives through available local/online metadata. Refresh consults enabled providers for metadata and artwork and can use the network. The app does not expose a general standalone artwork-upload editor; do not look for one in this guide. Existing album art stays distinct from the decorative branded disc.
